Reece Jones (b. 1976) lives and works in Suffolk, UK. His practice encompasses paintings on paper, board, canvas, and panel, ranging from delicate layered washes to more densely constructed compositions. Moving fluidly between abstraction and figuration, Jones often revisits recurring motifs — such as costumed hands reaching into space — alongside imagery drawn from film, documentary sources, and his own archive of historic works.

While deeply concerned with formal relationships, surface, and the luminosity created through layered paint, Jones’s work also emphasises the openness and elasticity of interpretation. Images remain suggestive rather than fixed, allowing narratives, symbols, and associations to shift according to the viewer’s perception. Through this ambiguity, the paintings create spaces where memory, gesture, and visual reference coexist without resolution.

Jones completed a Postgraduate Fine Art degree at the Royal Academy Schools, London (1999–2002), following a BA in Fine Art at Loughborough University School of Art & Design (1996–1999).

Exhibitions include Cultuurhuis de Warande, Turnhout, Belgium; the John Moores Painting Prize, Liverpool; Andrew Mummery Gallery, London; OHSH Gallery, London; Long Story Short, New York; The Drawing Room, London; Norwich Castle Museum; Voorkamer, Lier, Belgium; Tokyo Wonder Site, Tokyo; Transition Gallery, London; the Royal Academy of Arts, London; the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol; All Visual Arts, London; Paul Stolper Gallery, London; and Stephane Simoens, Knokke, Belgium.
