Pippa Gatty’s painting practice investigates time, material residue and environment through small-scale, multilayered semi-abstract compositions. Her work explores the fragility and persistence of memory alongside the influence of historical painting traditions and the landscapes in which she lives and works. Through accumulated surfaces, subtle shifts in colour and texture, and carefully balanced abstraction, Gatty creates paintings that feel both intimate and atmospheric.

She studied Fine Art Painting at the Chelsea School of Art from 1987 to 1990 before completing an MA in Fine Art at the Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2008.

Recent exhibitions include Of Mere Being at Soho Revue (2023), Against the Fall of Night at Arusha Gallery (2019), participation in The Manchester Contemporary with Man and Eve Projects (2015), and Orange Time at the MK Biennale, Galerie um Kunsthof (2014).

In 2024, Gatty was awarded the RSA Artshop Prize by the Royal Scottish Academy. She also won a regional award at the ING Discerning Eye exhibition in 2019.

Her work is held in collections including the Robert Devereux Collection, the University of the Arts London Collection, and the Priseman Seabrook Collection, as well as other private collections.
