Motonori Uwasu is a contemporary artist whose work explores themes of memory, experience and personal identity through pared-back, dreamlike imagery. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, he frequently depicts cars, houses and simplified landscapes that carry a toy-like or miniature quality, transforming familiar scenes into poetic psychological spaces.
Uwasu’s paintings balance nostalgia and ambiguity, using reduced forms and carefully controlled compositions to evoke fleeting recollections and emotional resonance. His landscapes and objects appear simultaneously personal and universal, suggesting memories reconstructed through imagination rather than direct observation.
He studied Fine Art at the Osaka University of Arts between 1995 and 1999.
Recent solo exhibitions include LANDSCAPE at Moosey (2025), LANDSCAPE + CATS at YOD TOKYO (2024), monochrome painting at Gallery OUT of PLACE (2023), Landscape at AO Bar (2023), and HOUSE AND CAR at Moosey (2022).
Selected group exhibitions include DREAM PAPER 4 at GALERIE MASUREL (2025), BLOCK PARTY at BSMT (2024), Through My Window at JPS Gallery (2023), and ESCAPE at Eleanor Harwood Gallery (2023).
