Johanna Seidel (b. 1993, Germany) is a contemporary painter whose luminous works position nature as a poetic inner landscape shaped by memory, myth and dream. Suspended between abstraction and figuration, her paintings evoke shifting psychological terrains where organic forms, atmosphere and symbolism merge into emotionally charged compositions.
Seidel studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden from 2014 to 2021, including an exchange semester at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts between 2017 and 2018. She continued with postgraduate studies in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden from 2021 to 2024.
Recent solo exhibitions include Gardens at Night (2026) at Galerie Laetitia Gorsy, While no Voices chanted, no Woodlot bloomed (2025) presented with CLC Gallery Venture at Liste Art Fair Basel, Salamander (2024) at Gaa Gallery, and Sovereign Lands like no one’s listening (2024) at CLC Gallery Venture in Beijing.
Her work has also featured in significant group exhibitions including You & I are Earth at SETAREH, The Volcano Lover at Galerist, Behind Closed Doors at Gaa Gallery, New York, Big Nature is Watching You at Tobogan, Unwritten – on Growing Up at Museum Gunzenhauser, and The Second Body at Soho Revue.
In 2025, Seidel received the Second Grant from The Hopper Prize and was named among the Top 100 Early-Career Artists in the Artcube 2026 Discoveries Report. In 2024, one of her works was acquired by the Public Collection of the Federal State of Saxony, Germany.
