Benjamin Murphy is a visual artist and writer based between London and Helsinki. Born in West Yorkshire, he exhibits internationally and works primarily in charcoal on raw canvas, exploring themes of polarity, time, memory, and contrast. His practice balances abstraction and figuration, often using reduction and repetition to examine the emotional weight carried by images and symbols.
Alongside his studio practice, Murphy is co-founder and co-director of Delphian Gallery and an associate lecturer at the University of the Arts London.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Academic Practice from the University of the Arts London, a Master’s Degree with Merit in Contemporary Fine Art from the University of Salford, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design from the University of Salford.
Recent exhibitions include Unknown Pleasures at Surr Gallery, Los Angeles (2025); Death & Disaster at Toinen Silmä Gallery, Helsinki (2025); Inevitable Decline at The Betancourt Gallery, Miami (2024); Iconoclasm at Union Gallery, London (2023); DISASTERPIECE at Lychee One Gallery, London (2022); and Petrol / Station / Flowers at Lychee One Gallery, London (2021).
