Tuesday Riddell (b. 1992, Newcastle upon Tyne) is a London-based artist working in the endangered craft of European lacquer work, a type of finish that originated as a 17th-century European interpretation of East Asian lacquerwork. Her practice takes us down to the forest floor, rendering shadowed, otherworldly landscapes where golden cycles of life and decay quietly unfold.
Riddell studied BA Painting at City & Guilds of London Art School (2012–2015). Recent exhibitions include Through the Brambles at Messums London (2025); The Way it is Now at Messums/Detour Gallery, New York (2025); Medium Rare at Berntson Bhattacharjee, London (2025); The Platform at London Art Fair with Soho Revue (2025); The Journey of Life at the Homo Faber Biennale, Venice (2024); and Understory, Snakes, Snails, and the Forest Floor at Pamela Salisbury Gallery, Hudson, New York (2024).
Awards and fellowships include the Cockpit Arts / Radcliffe Craft Development Award (2019) and the Painter-Stainers’ Decorative Surface Fellowship at City & Guilds of London Art School (2018). Her work is held in collections including the SiXi Museum, Nanjing, China, and the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection.
