53. Pippa Gatty - Pinniped
AOAP Projects x Royal Society of Arts Summer Show
2022
Oil on plywood
17 x 14 x 1.5 cm
Pippa Gatty’s painting practice investigates time, material residue and environment through small, multilayered semi-abstract compositions. Her work explores the fragility and persistence of memory, the legacy of historical painting, and the landscape in which she lives and works. Through layered surfaces and subtle shifts in tone and texture, Gatty creates intimate paintings that balance atmosphere, abstraction and material presence.
She studied Fine Art Painting at the Chelsea School of Art from 1987 to 1990, and completed an MA in Fine Art at the Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2008.
Recent exhibitions include Of Mere Being at Soho Revue (2023), Against the Fall of Night at Arusha Gallery (2019), participation with Man and Eve Projects at The Manchester Contemporary (2015), and Orange Time at the MK Biennale, shown at Galerie um Kunsthof (2014).
In 2024, Gatty received the RSA Artshop Prize from the Royal Scottish Academy. She was also the recipient of a regional award at the ING Discerning Eye exhibition in 2019.
Her work is held in collections including the Robert Devereux Collection, the University of the Arts London Collection, and the Priseman Seabrook Collection, as well as other private collections.
