Darren Slater is a Sussex-based artist whose work is inspired by the landscapes surrounding him and the quiet pull of the fantastical. Working primarily in acrylic on wood panels, he builds his paintings through layered washes and finely observed detail, capturing the textures, light and atmosphere of the countryside he knows intimately. His paintings balance realism with a subtle sense of wonder, creating tranquil spaces where nature, imagination and memory overlap.
Largely self-taught, Slater has developed an independent painting practice rooted in close observation and a deep connection to landscape. His work often evokes stillness and contemplation, inviting viewers into scenes that feel both familiar and dreamlike.
Recent exhibitions include the Winter Exhibition (2024–2025) at Horsham Museum & Art Gallery and ongoing Resident Artist group exhibitions at Gallery North, where he has participated regularly since 2023.
