About The Artist

Darren Reid is an English contemporary realist painter whose meticulously detailed landscapes and seascapes occupy a space between observation and invention. Although rooted in recognisable environments, his paintings are carefully constructed compositions rather than direct depictions of real locations. Through a highly controlled, intricate painting process, Reid creates hyperreal images that encourage sustained engagement with both the visual surface and the work's underlying psychological and narrative tensions.

Reid’s paintings often evoke stillness, distance and ambiguity, transforming familiar natural settings into heightened, almost cinematic spaces. His precise handling of light, atmosphere and detail gives the works an uncanny clarity, prompting viewers to reconsider the relationship between realism, memory and fiction.

Recent exhibitions include the solo exhibition At the Margin at JD Malat Gallery (2026), as well as group exhibitions Summer Exhibition (2025), Here and Now (2024), and The Contemporary Human Condition (2022), all at JD Malat Gallery.

Reid’s paintings are held in private and public collections internationally.
