Peter Jones is best known for his tenderly observed still-life paintings of vintage soft toys, which he collects and paints as emotionally charged stand-ins for human experience. Chosen for their expressive potential rather than nostalgia alone, the toys become quiet reflections on love, longing, vulnerability, helplessness and disillusionment. Through careful observation and restrained compositions, Jones transforms familiar objects into poignant studies of emotional attachment and memory.
Working within the tradition of still-life painting, his work balances technical precision with psychological sensitivity. The worn surfaces, faded fabrics and subtle expressions of the toys suggest narratives that feel both deeply personal and universally recognisable, allowing viewers to project their own experiences and emotions onto the subjects.
Jones studied Fine Art at the University of Reading between 1988 and 1992.
Recent group exhibitions include Not Just Me at Andelli Art (2026), Le Rat Mort at Safehouse 1 (2025), Inadvertent at The Launderette (2025), Cat Show at Thames-Side Studios (2025), Sweet Nothings at BYE BYE Gallery (2024), and No Place Like Home at ArtHouse Jersey (2023).
