Anna Maria Schönrock is a contemporary artist whose work explores nature as the origin of all creation and as a vital source for imagining alternatives and unknown futures. Her practice focuses on the overlooked and often inconspicuous elements of the natural world, magnifying their presence to encourage empathy, understanding, and coexistence within planetary boundaries. Through this attention to detail and material sensitivity, Schönrock proposes new ways of relating to the environment and to one another.
Working primarily in painting, she also creates murals and installations that combine painted surfaces with sculptural elements in clay and plaster. Her works often move between the organic and the surreal, creating immersive environments where natural forms appear transformed, vulnerable and psychologically charged.
Schönrock studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg from 2008 to 2014 under Ralph Fleck.
Recent exhibitions include Screens and Schemes (2025) at the Credo Bonum Foundation and Alexandra Karpuchina Gallery, Don’t You Ever Stop Asking at Culterim Spaces, Creep on, creepin’ on at Galerie Reception, and Outside the Line at z2o Galleria Sara Zanin. Her work has also been shown in Germany, Italy, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, including exhibitions with Galvani Galerie and at the FSUP Festival of Contemporary Art in Prostějov.
