Rhona Taylor is a visual artist based in Edinburgh whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting, installation, printmaking, drawing and sculpture. Her work explores colour and light, repetition and pattern, and the relationships between shape, line and spatial experience. Drawing inspiration from architecture, public spaces, swimming pools, coastlines, and the sea, Taylor experiments with a wide range of materials, frequently painting on metal, acrylic, and wood. Her large-scale installations often respond directly to architectural environments, with painted interventions applied to the fabric of buildings.
Taylor studied Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with a BA (Hons) in 2013.
Recent solo exhibitions include Immersive at Royal Commonwealth Pool (2025); Incremental at Detail Gallery (2023); Spectrums at The Briggait (2022); Gatherings at Artwalk Porty (2020); and Sea Marks at Patriothall Gallery (2017).
Selected group exhibitions include the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, London; Through Line at City Art Centre (2024); Our Shared World at Edinburgh Printmakers (2025); and Reduct: Abstraction and Geometry in Contemporary Art at the Royal Scottish Academy (2020). She has also exhibited internationally in Iceland, including at SÍM Hlöðuloftið and in Djúpavík.
Taylor has received multiple awards from Creative Scotland, including Open Funding Awards (2024 and 2025) and Visual Artist and Craft Maker Awards in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council (2023 and 2025). In 2024, she was also awarded a Visual Arts Award from the Hope Scott Trust.
Her work is held in collections including the University of Edinburgh’s Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
