Jon Burgerman is a British artist, author and performer whose playful, instantly recognisable visual language has made him an internationally celebrated figure in contemporary art and illustration. Known for his energetic characters, spontaneous mark-making and vibrant compositions, Burgerman’s work spans painting, drawing, installation, publishing and live performance. Central to his practice is a belief in creativity as a joyful and transformative act, using humour, accessibility and imagination to encourage connection and self-expression.
Burgerman’s work balances simplicity with emotional depth, often using cartoon-like forms and improvised gestures to explore human relationships, anxiety, play and contemporary culture. His artworks have been exhibited, shared and collected internationally, and he has become particularly influential in bridging the worlds of fine art, publishing, performance and popular visual culture.
He studied Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University, graduating with a First Class BA (Hons) between 1999 and 2001.
Recent exhibitions include the solo exhibition Hold On, It Won’t Last Long at A Hug From The Art World (2026), following the publication of his seventh picture book, Beginning, Middle and End, by Boxer Books. Other notable solo exhibitions include Dream World at Dopeness Art Lab (2025), Cradle at Hunted Projects (2024), Family at Dopeness Art Lab (2024), New Friends at WOAW Gallery (2022), and Fun Factory at the M Contemporary Museum (2019).
His work has featured in exhibitions and art fairs worldwide, including presentations at Tate Modern, Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art, Tang Contemporary Art, Taipei Dangdai Art Fair and Aspen Art Fair.
Burgerman’s work is held in institutional collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the OÖ-Kultur Museum.
