Emma Hart is a London-based sculptor whose work explores communication, gesture, and the dynamics of social interaction. Working across ceramics, glass, and large-scale public commissions, she creates bold, graphic forms that operate as direct forms of address to the viewer.
Her sculptures often take on functional or architectural roles, shaping how people gather, move, and relate to one another. Recurring motifs such as hands, speech bubbles, and faces create a visual language that is both playful and psychologically charged. Hart’s work sits between sculpture, design, and public space, with an emphasis on immediacy, humour, and human connection.
Hart completed a PhD in Fine Art at Kingston University, London (2013), following an MA in Fine Art (Sculpture) at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, London (2004).
Recent exhibitions include Club Together at Modern Art Oxford (2024); Hear Now! at UCL East, London (2023); and Strange Clay at Hayward Gallery (2022–2023).
Awards include the Henry Moore Foundation Artist Award (2022), the Max Mara Art Prize for Women with Whitechapel Gallery (2017), and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Visual Arts (2015). Her work is held in collections including the Arts Council Collection, the Government Art Collection, and the British Council Collection.
