Over the past decade, the rise of postcard auctions has been exponential, becoming one of the most accessible and cost-effective ways for charities to raise funds. From grassroots initiatives to large-scale annual events, the format has offered a simple yet powerful fundraising model. But Art on a Postcard will cease its postcard auctions at the end of the year, marking the end of over a decade of impactful fundraising.
Founded by Gemma Peppé in 2014 to support the Hepatitis C Trust, Art on a Postcard quickly grew into an internationally respected platform. Its model mirrors other successful initiatives around the globe: Most notably the RCA’s now defunct Secret Sale, Ireland’s Incognito Art Sale - which has raised funds through anonymous postcard auctions for nine years - while New York-based Visual AIDS has been running a similar model for over twenty-three years.
Our re-brand isn’t just a new look; it’s a renewed commitment to championing artists, curators, and collectors while deepening our impact. Here’s what defines AOAP Projects as we head into this new era:
Eleven Years of Expertise Now Evolving into a New Chapter
Over the years Art on a Postcard has been the official charity at three different art fairs, produced sell out limited edition print runs alongside auctions, and partnered with numerous other charities to assist with their fundraising; of most recent note, the charity War Child. AOAP Projects continues to build on this foundation, devoting more time to the quality of our auctions for both artists and bidders.
A Proven Eye for Emerging Talent
Art on a Postcard's line up of artists are thoroughly researched and unmatched in the field at spotting new talent. In the past, we have provided a vital platform to many young artists who may have not even finished their studies yet, or who are entering the art world from unusual backgrounds and career paths. For example, Shaquell Whyte, included in a 2021 auction and is now with Pippy Holdsworth; Okiki Akinfe took part in the She Curates Mini Auction before having finished her BA at the Slade and has since gone on to have her first solo show with Ginny on Frederick this June 2025. AOAP Projects will continue to refine this focus, ensuring that new voices continue to find visibility and momentum.
A Platform for Artists at Every Stage
AOAP Projects will continue to champion established artists, affordable access to exceptional artists remaining one of our biggest strengths.
During the secret auction days, one of Marina Abramovic’s postcards sold for just £600. The late Paula Rego previously created a piece that also sold at £600, a bargain for an original work by a globally recognised talent. More recently, in the 2024 Summer Auction a work by George Rouy sold for £1500, while at this year’s Art Basel he sold for £225000.

A Home for Curators, Writers, and Art World Professionals
In the 2024 Summer Auction, a curated collection of works by SOUP gallery director and writer Hector Campbell featured artists such as Melania Toma, Nina Silverberg, Lucas Dupuy, and Gori Mora.
Similarly, Art on a Postcard's recent Winter Auction featured contributions curated by art critic, curator, and podcast host Tabish Khan; independent curator Debbie Meniru, with a background at Tate; curator and media personality Ryan Lanji; artist and Jackson’s Art Prize winner Andrew Torr; and Lily Ackerman, founder of London-based art consultancy Ackerman Studios.
Unlike other postcard auctions, Art on a Postcard consistent integrated working professionals into its programming, making the auctions uniquely collaborative and curator-led. This collaborative, curator-led approach will continue to be key in all of AOAP Project's work.
A Global Community
International perspectives are essential to our future as AOAP Projects. For example, two exceptional South African Artists, Phindile Mamba and Ayobola Kekere-Ekun have both been featured, the latter being included in the second edition of Sound & Vision.

A Renewed Dedication to Charity Organisations
Supporting The Hepatitis C Trust has always been at the core of Art on a Postcard. Art on a Postcard raises awareness and funds for an illness which is often pushed to the sidelines. The Hepatitis C Trust is committed to eliminating hepatitis C in the UK by 2030, and its strategy to do so is based on better prevention, increased diagnosis, and treatment for all.
AOAP Projects will now have more scope to work with other charities.
As Art on a Postcard prepares to close this chapter in 2026, the new AOAP Projects will honour its remarkable legacy. While we on the team can't claim to be entirely free of bias, we hope you'll stay tuned and look forward to the first new-format auction of the year: International Women's Day.
