His work has been recognised for its sensitive observation and strong painterly presence, earning selection for major portrait exhibitions and contemporary painting prizes over several decades.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShoosmith first gained national recognition by being included in the BP Portrait Award exhibitions in 1997 and 1998 at the National Portrait Gallery.
